In Honor of John E. Swing
John E. Swing highly valued equity in education. He was always willing to help passionate, driven, and talented students who aspired to attend a world-class university.
John Swing Scholarship
A scholarship for equity in education.
The John Swing Scholarship honors John E. Swing's belief that talent and drive — not circumstance — should determine a student's path to a world-class university. It's open to passionate, driven students across Costa Rica, not only current Berkeley Academy families.
Eligibility
Candidates must reside in Costa Rica to apply, and must currently be in their Grade 8 or Grade 9 year, in good standing.
Application Requirements
Three (3) Letters of Recommendation — from a teacher, community leader, mentor, coach, or someone who can attest to the candidate's personal and professional character.
A 500-word essay responding to the following prompt:
“John E. Swing highly valued equity in education. He was always willing to help passionate, driven and talented students who aspired to attend a world-class university. Write an essay that describes your background, passion, drive and talent. Why do you think you should be selected as a recipient of John E. Swing scholarship?”
A video (no more than one minute) to tell your story.
